I've hit a major snag with a VFX shot. I'm trying to give the effect of a pond boiling (like if you you were boiling water in a pot). I have a shot that I took with a tripod of the pond in question. I thought I had an idea by using the "Mercury" plug-in but it turns put that I can't do what I originally intended. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might also try Particle World - with it set to Lens Convex. Andrew Kramer over at Video Copilot made a tutorial called Energy that demonstrates this . . . kind of makes a bubbly effect.

the next step is often to figure out how to do a reflection map on the distortion. I usually just default to Colorama and use a custom color wheel that uses samples from the main scene.
