Name in Lights with explosion

Hi! I am trying to create an effect and I'm not sure if it is possible. I want to have a persons names in lights, made up of a bunch of lights that together spell a word. (I am going for the baseball stadium lights look) I want it to start out with the lights on, and then get really bright and explode to black. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi Ashley,
What if you were to start with a black solid and add the lens flair affect to it and bring the center points together so you just have a white hot center with no flair. Then key frame it to start dim and get brighter. Precompose it and duplicated it until you have enough lights to position them in the shape of your words. Select them all precompose them and then add the shatter effect to it. I’m not in AE right now but I think that would work.
