Soft Focus
by jaco rossouw on Jul 15, 2008 at 3:46:14 pm

Hi Guys,
hope someone can help.
we recently did a green screen shoot using Silicon Imaging SI-2K,
with the cineform codec.

when we checked focus everything seemed to be right.
We did closeup shot and some wide shots.

now when we check the footage the wide shots has a soft focus, not sharp at all, where the close ups are great and crisp.

any ideas what could have happened.can it be something we are doing wrong while working with the avi files.

we are useing Premiere Pro CS3 and AE.

Thanks in advanced.

This sounds like a problem with the photography. Was your camera's backfocus misadjusted?

[Dave LaRonde] "Was your camera's backfocus misadjusted? "

Time to contact the rental house! They set your camera's lens poorly or failed to check ti for you before it left the shop. You want them to know it's an issue before they rent it out again.

if it's your camera, call your lens mfr and find out how to set the backfocus and to check the mount and focus barrel for mechanical issues. Even if you can set the BF and correct an exit pupil laignment, if the lens has any mechanical issues you will never be able to hold the corrections.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: "For crying out loud, read the freakin' manual."
