Keeping color, removing gradient
by Björn Lind on Jul 14, 2008 at 8:02:28 pm

Hello!

I've got a little problem. I created a blood splatter picture inside of photoshop and I'd like to use it in one of my videos. However, the blood splatter color was made with a gradient and now I'd like to get rid of that gradient but still keep the color of the blood.
You can view my bloodsplatter picture here: http://i38.tinypic.com/bi8fvr.jpg

Maybe there is some color correction effect in after effects that i can use? Im kind of new to after effects and photoshop so I'd be very happy if you could help me :)

PS: I wasn't sure if I was gonna post this in the after effects forum or the photoshop forum so redirect me if i'm wrong

Thanks in advance,
Björn

If it were me, I'd fix it in Photoshop. Why create problems fixing it in AE when you can get it right in Photoshop?

But how to fix it in photoshop? I have photoshop artists to do that for me. Ask on the Photoshop forum if you need to.

mirror the layer and invert it. the new layer transfer mode of luma will negate the simple gradient effect. take that photoplop.

in AE-
duplicate layer so there's 2 grad.jpg
top layer add channel->invert effect and mode classic color dodge

fill in white spaces if you want with fill bucket tool in photoshop.

You will have a perfect splotch with a white background.

If you want it as an alpha channel go to AE keyer-> extract and change white point to 247.

Now you can use it for special effects and etc!
