Origin of terms "gamma" and "alpha channel"??
by Zafer Mustafa on Jul 3, 2008 at 7:00:57 pm

Greetings from Boston!!!

Purely for my own edification, I'm trying to find the history behind two terms we all seem to use all the time: gamma and alpha channel.

Does anyone know where these terms came from and what their history is?? Was Gamma purely a math variable??

I would be uber grateful for any leads :-)

much thanks and a great 4th to those of you in the States.

Might be worth doing a search on "Alpha channels" in the Wikipedia. Think they have something on it there.

Cheers

Alex
