Hi! im very new to after effects and all.
have been making a video but some of the people seem to be lit up too much causing the white to blow out. i have included some links below to examples of how it looks. I have already messed with the look of it a bit, just cant seem to make the lit up areas look better.
any help would be much appreciated. thanks,
Lloyd :)

Unfortunately there is not much that can be done with VIDEO that is blown out that badly. My advice would be to go with that look and intentially have high contrast. Use your levels and contrast controls, crush your blacks slightly (raise your black in levels) and also pop your contrast a bit.
This is one war you cannot win, so you might as well run with it and use it to a style advantage.
The problem with blown out (overexposed) video is that nearly all detail is completely lost, so if you lower the brightness, you get a nice, flat, boring grey zone. Not usable.
Exploit it, and others will think youre a creative genius.
