How do I create this effect?
by Kim Wang (Digitalart) on Jul 3, 2008 at 1:55:43 pm

I need help recreating similar effect in after effect. . Check out this commercial from jet blue.

For example the text pop up with Jell-O or rubbery effect. It bound up and come to a rest. Do I do that with key frame scale or is this only can be done with expression?

TIA
Kim W

Hello!!

We just created a similar effect using two different methods. The first was what we were comfortable with, the second was faster to create, modify, and render.

1 - Do it in a 3D program. Just create the text in something like Maya or Lightwave, keyframe the Z scale over time - it pops out. Scale down the far back end in order to get that 'coming from infinity' look.

2 - Download the demo of Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator - it's a plugin for After Effects that allows you to make text appear 3D. You can also scale said text in the Z direction, giving it the 'pop out' look. This method is a little easier to manage, but requires learning a new plugin (which might be easier if you don't know 3d)
