Reflections inside a car at night

I am about to shoot a scene, in a studio, that appears to take place inside a car at night. My DP is talking about using a small light to simulate light from passing traffic that would rake across the faces of the characters inside the car.
I wonder if it would be possible to this in post with AE. That would be one less thing to deal with while shooting and allow for complete control of light timing and intensity.
I am just beginning to learn AE but though that it might be possible.
Can this be done in a realistic manner with AE.
Thanks,
Bob

As a matter of experience do what ever you can on set. The "fix it in post" may and will give you problems. Why not shoot the scene twice, once with the DP light raking and then again without. That way if it doesn't work in AE you have a safety net. The problem I see with doing it in AE is that you have depth and background inside the car to deal with, along with having to isolate travelling mattes to light the foreground actors, etc... Best to do it when shooting as suggested by your DP.
