Light layer question

Light layer question

Is there a way to make a light affect all layers except for one?

I know i can do this with the material properties of the layer i need not to be affected, but this controls the effect with regard to all lights in a scene.....

I have three lights, two of which i want to affect the entire composition, but one of them i want to affect everything except for a single layer.

I can't see how to apply a mask to light, so not sure what to try next.

precomp everything but one layer and put precomp and layer in new comp

Ahh - of course. I had tried that but just hadn't gone far enough.
To achieve the effect required multiple layers of nested pre-comps!

you can make a light an adjustment light. Check out this post:
