Ok I'll try to keep it brief. I created and object in cinema 4D and imported into after effects. Now I would like to at a very strong and hazy glow around it, kinda like its on fire except blue. I would also like to have the glow leave a trail behind it. Just thought of the best way to visualize it, like a comet!
How would I go about doing this, and is this something i should be doing in after effects or should i have handled this in cinema 4D?

trapcode particular would work fantastic for this. it has built in fade, time to live, pre-comp support, custom layers and full 3-D rendering with thousands of particles. you could add glow or shine to give it that special punch up. ipod nano tutorial would give you an excellent jump start.

Don;t forget you can also add a simple Photoshop glow inside and outside the edges like you can in Photoshop. Select your layer and choose Layer > Layer Styles and then choose both inner and out glow. Teen set the colors and other properties. This won't leave the trail, but it will give you a nice base for your glow.
