ERROR
by Paul Baker on Jun 26, 2008 at 6:33:46 pm

Does anyone have any idea why this keeps popping up?

After Effects error: reading from file (784). ( 3 :: 122)

Any help would be great! Or if you know where I could get help that would be great too.

Thanks!

[Paul Baker] "Any help would be great!"

It would also be great to have a few more details about your project so we have a fighting chance at a proper diagnosis.

Y'know, little things like the type of footage you're using, their codecs, 2D/3D, etc. The more you can tell us, the better we can help.

This has been happening quite a bit this past week.
I'll export NTSC DV (3:2) 720 x 480 footage at 29.97fps from Final Cut Pro as a quicktime .mov file.
Then import in to AE CS3 and drag it to create a comp with it's settings. And it works great. No 3d, just pretty basic editing right now.

Then the next day I try to open up the AE project and the errors keep popping up

After effects error: reading from file (784) (3 :: 122)
or After effects error : file cannot be imported --files of type "MooV are not supported.

(which I have double checked and confirmed that I am exporting Self Contained .mov files.)

The weirdest part about this whole thing is that the next day after I tried to open a project and it wouldn't let me because of those errors. When I tried opening it the next day...IT WORKED. after I did nothing to it.

But now it's happening all over again, and I need to find answers because I am in a real crunch.

Paul.

by the way, thanks dave. you've been a big help in the past

If you've had AE (or your computer) running continuously for a while, I'd try the following, in this sequence:
• Quit AE and reopen it
• Restart your machine
• Shut down your machine and fire it up again
• Quit AE, trash the AE Preferences file, and reopen AE

Ok, cool. I just tried all of that list. But now, when I try to open up my project it says:

After Effects warning: Unable to import file 'x.aep' as a project.

?

It sounds like a corrupted project file. Instead of using the Import command, try dragging the project file in question into the current project's Project Window. Outside of that, I'm clueless.
