Batch processing

I have a comp set up that takes a file, letterboxes it and outputs it with the filename burned in outside the letterbox. How do I make it automatically update the burn in based on the new filename, or do I have to continuously change it manually?
How do I do it for a large number of clips of varying length at once?

To my knowledge, you need to do it manually, but it's not that tough. Repetitive, yes, tough, no.
• Duplicate the comp ONCE.
• Find your longest-duration piece of footage.
• Use the Replace Footage command to put it into the duplicated comp, and set the comp's length to the length of the footage.
• Duplicate this time-altered comp as many times as you need to.
• Use the Replace Footage command to put the new pieces of footage into the new comps as you did above.
• Highlight the footage layer in these new comps, hit the o (for Out) key, which takes you to the out point of the footage. Then hit the n (for eNd) key, which shortens the Work Area to the length of the footage. Since AE defaults to rendering ONLY the Work Area, your renders will be the proper length.
Then just set up the Render Settings and Output Module templates as needed, add ONE comp to the Render Queue, navigate to the destination folder for the renders, add the remaining comps to the Render Queue, save the project, and you can render 'em all at once. A good time is overnight, when you're asleep and the computer isn't doing anything else, anyway.
