How to simulate 3d Extruded shapes leaving solid trails?
by Umer Zafar (umerzafar) on Jun 23, 2008 at 7:40:32 pm

hello guys,

I am trying to simulate shapes (stars, text etc) like we all see in pop commercials, videos that seem to extrude and scale in 3d space and leave a solid trail of their shape. Here are some links from shutterstock that can give you a quick idea.

I also want to control their rotations and give them curvy feel. Is there any plugin that can help me with this. Has anybody done this here? Please help. Thanks.

Regards

Zaxwerks' 3D Invigorator Pro should be able to do what you want.

Check out those tutorials and techniques. They did the trick for me. Obviously there are limitations and Zaxwerks is better for true 3d. But this is just a free alternative.

Check out Multaanon's CE Shape extruder. It's free, but limited in what it can do as it's a workaround. A good workaround and pretty cool, but a workaround nonetheless. Watch the tutorial and see if that's right for you.

Thank you guys for your time and tips. I have played with shape extruder. it works alright but i have doubts it extrudes along a path easily. Anybody tried to do that stuff before with shape extruder or pro invigorator then i will highly appreciate if he/she shows a few steps . Thanks.

You might try playing with the Echo time effect and some motion blur although this can get render intensive.

Joe Chao does some cool stuff with this in his "ribbonsandconfetti" tutorial.

trapcode particular with a precomped 3-D shape light layer will work too.
