Displacement Map problem...
by james aminzoserik on Jun 16, 2008 at 7:01:40 pm

I am very frustrated with an after effects cs3 problem...

When I use a displacement map and make a matte for it (for example a fractal noise layer) it just moves the whole composition up and down or side to side depending on what I increase or decrease!

The DIsplacement Map effect looks at a layer before any effects are rendered on that layer, so the displacement is using the solid before the fractal noise is applied. Try pre-composing (move all attributes) the layer first.

As Darby said.

if you click on my head at the top of this forum, you;ll find a bunch of tutorials. I did a 3-parter on displacement maps, which includes a section on the pitfalls of displacement mapping. It cover's this.
