Digital Anarchy's 'ToonIt'
by Dave Forrest on Jun 8, 2008 at 10:23:48 am

Anyone have any experience with this plug in?

I'm working on a project which has a 'comic book' theme running through it. I'm considering ToonIt and am just wondering if anyone has it and feels it was a worthwhile investment.

Any and all opinions appreciated.

Dave.

Have you downloaded the demo and tried it?

I haven't personally used it, but I've seen stuff from a few friends who have and it can give you some interesting looks.

The only way to know for sure if it will work for you is to try the demo.

I downloaded the demo and found it to be buggy like nearly all the Digital Anarchy applications. I don't use it now.

Yes, I found it to be a little buggy.

Hey, aren't you the father of the Brady Bunch? LOL.

No, if I was that Robert Reed, I am afraid I'd be the father of no one.

:)

A father of three,

You'd also be proof that internet service providers have established a market in the afterlife. :o

hey dave,

my webseries has constant comic book themes running through it, and through countless trial and error, i've found the best way is pencil, paper, illustrator, photoshop, after effects, in that order. i tried this plugin, along with a bajillion things like it, and nothing works for me like drawing it myself.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll pass on it for now.

Hunter - LOVE 'The Defenders of Stan' - very funny stuff! In the first episode you fade from a comic book still to live action - this was what I was hoping to acheive with 'ToonIt' except I wanted the comic book still frame to move as it faded into the live action. In retrospect and having seen your work, perhaps it doesn't really need to move after all.

I've been taking stills from my footage into Photoshop and applying the 'cutout' and 'posterise' filters as well as a few other steps to create some black outlines. One thing I'm struggling with is the 'print texture' that you seem to have nailed pretty well. Mind if I ask how you get that 'dotty' appearance?

Dave.

i duplicated the layer twice.

on layer one, i did a cutout filter. then i just used the "color halftone"

on layer two i desaturated, then did an outlines filter, and used the darken transfer mode, i believe.
