The post you noted is VERY simple process... if my memory is correct... there was a question as to how they did this on the motiongraphics site... and, the answer was basically this,...
The player only had on 3 layers of shirts on at any one time... each were specially taylored so that they would not be visible as an under layer.
The only "trick" was that at about the mid point you will notice a person walking in front of the camera carrying basketballs in a net bag tossed over his shoulder. This was used so that the shot could be divided up into two parts... the first part had about 3 (or so) shirt layers... then, the person crossed in front of the shot to provide a cut point in the editing process... and, then the player had a new under layer of shirts to complete the shirt removal shots.
So... basically, there was no specical effects used... just carefully planned and shot scenes.
Simplicity is sometimes the best tool for the job... and, all to often I see some posts (not yours, of course) assume something is done using AE when it was just good camera work, great planning and knowing how to use a typical NLE software (not a compositing software like AE).

looks like they did multiple shots with clothes changes and just used masks and dissolves to transition between the shots.
it's very slick, but nothing outrageously technical. I think mostly it's good greenscreening and choreographed, rehearsed motions (like dancing). And LOTS of takes.
