Puppet tool feasibility or rather, how to animate an animal talking!

Hi all,
Ever since I bought AE I've been wondering if it could be used to animate a dog talking like so many of those commercials out there today. Been meaning to tinker around to see what I could do with either the Puppet tool or the Liquify effect but have two problems:
1) Can't get my Golden Retriever puppy to sit still long enough to get some workable footage
2) Don't really have the time anyway
So, just a general question / topic for discussion - anyone think AE is a solution for this and if so, how would you go about it?

Cool - I'll check it out - good thing for me is that, at this point in my life, this is only a hobby - so most of what I do will be ok (perhaps even funnier) if it's a little cheesy. And if I try this for a video, it'll be something funny. But then again, I am considering getting back into video production work - I miss it too much...

You could always try the "Mr Ed" technique.
Place a large "glob" of peanut butter in the mouth of your puppy. Shoot the scenes of the puppy trying to get the peanut butter off his tongue and inner cheeks.
