AE7 freezes since 4GB RAM update
by Dino Muhic on May 21, 2008 at 8:35:23 am

Hi,

I'm workin on a WinXP 64bit SP2 system with AE7.
Everything was fine until I got an RAM update from 2GB to 4GB.
In the last two days AE froze 3 times (menue bar went white and "not responding" was written on the window title bar).

Its a big project I'm currently working on (50MB aeproject-file, most known plug-ins, you name it...)

System specifications:
Windows XP Pro 64bit SP2
Intel Core 2 6400@ 2.13 GHz
NVidia GeForce 7900 GS
3.93 GB RAM (since I got the update)

AE memory preferences are on standard except that I made a 6GB hard disc cache and prevent DLL fragmention is turned on.

Any clues why this could be happening?

Also I found out that since the upgrade AE7 uses about 2,3 GB RAM but before the upgrade (on same project file) it used just about 1,3 GB of RAM (which matches with the 60% in the memory and cache preferences in AE i guess).

Any known issues with this?

I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Dino Muhic

Id play around with those cache settings some more - just remember that you have TWO cpu's... do you have multiprocessing enabled?

you might have given them too much ram and aren't leaving enough for windows to do its job of running your apps..

is ae the only thing that freezes? can you run anything else without lag?

Hope this points you in the right dir..

Yeah everything else works fine.
There's also enough head room for windows and other apps so this seems not to be the problem...
Since I'm working on AE Version 7 there is no multi processor support...
