Fracture map?
by John Kleischven on May 20, 2008 at 11:12:55 pm

Hey, I wanted to use shatter and I wanted to know how to make a fracture map in photoshop. I was also using the blastcode trial and that would be awesome with a fracture map as well, anyone have any ideas how I could do it?

You can make a Custom Shatter Map with a black and white image, the black will be the pieces. Inside Shatter, Choose: Pattern>Custom, and Custom Shatter Map>Choose the black and white layer.

If you make a black and white layer with a plugin like Grid, it needs to be precomposed (Move all Attributes), for Shatter to see it.

Is that what you want?

It's actually a bit more complicated if your map is a colored image according the Shatter's inventor, Brian Maffit. You want to apply a threshold opeation on the layer first. It's easiest to do with Colorama set to the basic CMYBRGBW without any interpolation between colors.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: "For crying out loud, read the freakin' manual."
