I opened up AE to continue working on a project from the other day. Now I can't see any of the jpegs I was working with, and when I try to make a new comp and import the jpeg files AE gives me a jpeg error message, and can't import the jpegs. Anyone have any ideas how this might have happened and what I can do to fix it? Thanks in advanced.

if you haven't done so already, i would reboot... this can often fix odd ae behavior.
if that doesn't help, then give some info on your system (os, ae version, quicktime version, anything new or updated since you last worked on the project).
i had a problem with cs3 (latest update) on an intel mac where i lost the ability to import p2 files... worked one week, then didn't the next. the only fix seemed to be creating a new user account. it seems for some reason the importer file was failing to load possibly due to some bad permission file that the disk utility could not find/repair. but anew account with new permission worked fine... if you are on a mac, this may help you too.
