AE crashes and takes Windows with it!
by Damein Green on May 17, 2008 at 5:51:48 am

Good day all.

Has anyone else had trouble with AE crashing Windows?

I recently re-installed Windows XP.

Just about each time I attempt to do something even *remotely* complex, Windows XP will re-boot itself. I'm thinking it's a graphics card problem, but I haven't had this problem in the past. Could it be my Windows XP re-install altered something that wasn't supposed to be altered?

My graphics card is an Nvidia 7600 GS, running AE 7. Pentium 4 3GHZ with HyperThreading (yeah, its somewhat outdated, but I didn't have this problem until my recent re-install).

Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you might have a heat problem.. or bad memory..

I don't know of any decent free memory scanners, but for your system status stuff theres a few good programs I'd recommend..

Theres a program called "speedfan" that will read your temperatures and voltages, if you're a little computer savvy it should make perfect sense.. and should let you know if things are ... weird..

Also Microsoft guys have released something called "Process Explorer" you can even have it replace the stock task manager. It can show you all sorts of neat stuff about whats running and what your CPU's up to..

SpeedFan 4.33 (not for computer noobs)

Process Explorer (not for computer noobs)

Hope this information is of some use to you..

I've been encountering the same issues. Thanks a lot for the apps, these will be a huge help in troubleshooting.
