Black vector paint + solid white layer = gray?
by Marc Brown on May 17, 2008 at 5:04:20 am

This one's killing me, and I don't think I'm going to find the answer anywhere but here.

I've created a pre-comp of a simple vector paint which I painted with black lines. Vector paint appears to utilize transparency by default, wherever there aren't lines drawn, which is good.

When I add the pre-comp to a solid white layer, the lines are not black, but gray. And there are no modifications one can make to change it. If the option existed, I would change the "blending mode" to "overlay" and that would do the trick. But the option does not exist.

Now, I did notice that when I'm looking at my pre-comp and I flip on the transparency box, the black lines turn gray. This implies that they are half-transparent for some reason. And I haven't a CLUE how to make them non-transparent. The Vector Paint option is unfortunately extremely limited in utility, and indeed the only reason I made use of it is because Adobe Flash apparently doesn't have anything like Vector Paint's "Wiggle" option (a bit ironic and a bit frustrating). As to why I pre-comped the Vector Paint layer, well.. I had to do it in order to get around limitations in how the Wiggle effect functions.

Anyway, that's the real challenge for any takers: How to get the Vector Paint pre-comp to show up as black lines on a white solid, rather than half-transparent and gray.
