15 to 25fps

Hi chaps - I have a bit of footage shot on my digital stills camera in movie mode it's of a crow flying across the sky - I want to key it over some footage in a PAL 25fps comp - I've interpreted it on import to conform but there are still a few frames that seem to have nothing in them - I'm not quite sure if the bird (which is pretty small in the frame) is twisting in flight and therefore disappearing or whether AE can't fill in the blank frames when it takes the footage from 15 to 25fps. Any advice please. Regards Roger

If you conformed the footage in AE from 15 to 25 fps, you're seeing every frame. By conforming it, AE simply assumes that it must play all the frames available at the new rate.

Thanks for getting back to me Dave - I kind of understand - there seems to be something odd going on I need to dig into it and do some tests to establish how its working - I think I'll 'shoot' a clock with a seconds sweep-hand then i'll be able to see exactly how AE does the conversion. Okay, here's an easy test: grab some 25fps PAL footage, conform it to 12.5fps, put it in a normal PAL comp and watch what happens.

Afraid of fractional frame rates? Breathe easy: we NTSC folk work with 29.97 all the time, no sweat.

I'll give that a go Dave - 29.97 - yuck - I've always been so happy living in PAL land and been able to skip the 29.97 stuff in the manuals !
