Firewire output to widescreen preview

I'm trying to preview / record my 16:9 comp on my widescreen camcorder, but it's only displaying a squished 4:3. I'm doubting it's a setting on the camcorder, (I've tried without luck) I'm trying to find if there is a setting in AE that's causing it to show as fullscreen rather than widescreen over the firewire.

The camera should have the setting. With all firewire, it sends the format you tell it to. So if you tell it to send widescreen, it will tell the device it's in widescreen. That firewire device has its own settings for output. Cameras aren't know for being a great "passthrough/preview" so it may not have the settings you need like VTR's.

I'm not only using it as a passthru, but I also want to record this onto the dv tape as a backup. Plus, where I edit I don't always have room for my monitor so I cheat and just use the lcd screen on the camcorder.
Any 3rd party programs I could download that would do this? I've tried WinDV but that doesn't give me the live preview like AfterEffects does.

Well, that's not a problem. DV widescreen is 720x480, just like 4x3 DV is. The worst thing that could happen is that you'll have to remind your capture software that this is widescreen and not 4x3.

Okay, so you might not be able to work in AE and take care of business in the Men's Room simultaneously. It's still better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
