Stroke - Rasterizing Layers
by Dale Doebert on May 14, 2008 at 3:51:53 pm

Hello,

I'm using Stroke to "grow on" a vine with some leaves. It is an eps file. I thought I could build it small and then scale/ rasterize it larger but my Stroke reveal mask does not scale with it.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks much!

Don't do that. If you scale up a solid with the Stroke effect applied, you'll start to see aliasing. With the unlikely exception of Vector Paint (I've never used it), there aren't any vector effects in AE. Depending on how much you scale, it could get darned ugly.

It's better to get the EPS file to the biggest scale you'll need, precomp the layer, match the new precomp's size to the EPS, make a comp-sized solid, and then start working on your stroke.

I'll agree: it's a pain in the neck to jump through all those hoops. But then, AE is first, last and always a bitmap application. Fortunately for us, it accommodates vector footage.
