How to Animate a Bird, each layer containing a different part.
by Robert Pool on May 8, 2008 at 11:39:20 pm

I'm trying to animate a bird in 2d. i have for images, on four layers of the bird in a different wing position. Each layer exists for 3 frames. when it plays it kinda looks like a bird flying. the problem is the whole thing is only 12 frames long. i want this to loop. i don't think the loopout expression applies to this because there are no keyframes. i also wonder if there is a way to make the frames blend together so it doesn't look so rigid. thanks.

If you have CS3, dont use separate images, use the very cool and handy PUPPET tool, you can make the wings flap, head bob, etc...and all perfectly smoothly

Eternity...don't miss it for the world.

if you make a filmclip, you can specify how many times you want it to loop. import the clip, ctrl click it in the project window-interpret footage-main

[Robert Pool] "I'm trying to animate a bird in 2d."

To heck with 2D. Do it in 3D... you can always use the comp as a nested 2D layer in your 2D comp.

Aharon Rabinowitz has a very good multipart tutorial on making birds. Click on his handsome mug at the top of this forum's page and find it.

Aharon's birds are the way to go, but you should be able to loop a comp, this way:

1) Select all the layers and Layer/Precompose (move all attributes.

2) Select the precomp, Layer/Apply Time Remapping to the precomp. This gives you two keyframe to loop.

3) Add your loop expression to the Time Remapping stopwatch.

thanks, i got the time remap keyframes there.
and removed "timeRemap" and entere;
loopOut("cycle", 1)
loopOut("cycle", 0)
loopOut("cycle", 2)

and none of them made it loop in a ram preview. here is a picture.

what do you think i'm doing that is the problem?
