im trying to create an icing up effect either in AE or FCP. I want to film an object say a TV and then add an effect that looks likes its starting to freeze, abit like the day after tommorow movie, so i am looking for some cracks and icicles to appear and then it to get thicker so its covered in thick ice. I am still newish to these packages so please be abit detailed in your answers or post links to pluging/tutorials

You parse the effect and try to figure out how to do each step. Some of the cracks can be animated easily in AE but you're not going to get frost or ice to build up as volumetric effects in AE. Those are practical effects shot on set with a locked down camera or tediously applied using a 3d app or hand drawn.
These kinds of things are often easier and more cheaply done with practical, physical, on-stage effects.

Hmmm I think the cracks can be done in a similar fashion to andrew kramers "the healer tutorial" (http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials.html?id=97) I just don't know about the actual "ICE/FROST" part of it...

I came across this website that sells some kind of spray that when its heated cracks and turns into ice http://www.stanleysonline.co.uk/product-1360.htm they also sell frost and snow products so im going to try a stop motion tactic by adding little by little and building up the layers then photo my scenes to make a full icing up effect. If you have an easier way let me know too!
