Creating a pouring effect using text
by Brian Gustave (Outdated Mac User) on May 4, 2008 at 11:51:55 pm

Hi,
I am trying to create an effect where text pours out of a wine bottle that is rotating from the vertical to its horizontal axis. I have the animated bottle rotating properly, but I do not know how to get the text to "pour" from the mouth of the bottle and into place at the bottom of the screen. Also, I would like to give the letters a liquidy feel as they pour out. Can anyone give me advice on how to create this combination of effects?

You can use the text animator to put the position, a bit of scale and 0 tracking to the mouth of the bottle, the liquid feel is achievable with displacement maps.

Liquidy can also be done with vector blurs.

The main issue with such initial attempts is figuring out the end positions and the ballistics as the letters come to a soft landing. Do you need them to wiggle and bounce?

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: "For crying out loud, read the freakin' manual."
