Slipping Footage Moves Keyframes
by Adrian Winter (Adrian) on Apr 30, 2008 at 7:48:38 pm

I am certain there must be a way around this, but as of yet I haven't been able to figure it out.

I have a very long comp (13 minutes) comprised of treated and edited footage. This comp is used mulitple times as 1 - 2 second segements in an animation with scaling, positioning and rotation keyframes applied to them.

In each of these instances (and there are many), I need to slip the comp to a different point in time. However given the length of the comp in question (13 minutes), dragging the slip edit bar over and over and over again in the timeline is taking forever and doesn't give me a good guage as to where I am in the comp as a whole.

I have tried a two different ways to use the layer window to accomplish this task, including:

-Dragging the layer duration bar (which slips the keyframes on the layer in sync with the footage)

-Changing the out point and the in point of the layer by hitting option-bracket (which keeps the keyframes in the same place but moves the clip in the timeline.

Both of these options are great for quickly changing the in and out points of the comp, but it totally messes up the timings of my keyframes

So, does anyone know of a easy way to rapidly slip through a comp without affecting the keyframes that are applied to the layer? I would rather avoid breaking the comp in question to smaller segments.

Any input in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

-Adrian

If I follow you correctly, I think you could temporarily change the duration of your comp to something twice or three times as long as it is- or more. Then zoom all the way out in the timeline. Now when you slip you'll cover a more ground with less dragging.

Oh yea, slip in the timeline, not the layer window.
