correcting chromatic aberration using AE CS3
by Stefan Nickl on Apr 24, 2008 at 1:07:35 pm

Hi,

I already searched in this forum concerning the upper question, but most contents were about crating CA as an effect and the few correcting posts didn`t really help me...

Is there any option / plug-in available to avoid chromatic aberration in videofiles with after effects cs3?

I`m working with a Canon XH-A1 combined with a dof-adapter whose macrolens causes the CA.

Of course there is the possibility to improve the results by generally color correction, but what I´m searching for is the option to desaturate only the edges.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you!
Stefan

You could try to pull a matte for the edges using the Stylize > Find Edges effect and use this to limit a Hue/Saturation effect.

Or if the chromatic aberration is fairly uniform you could try shifting individual channels around to try and line them up more accurately, which probably won't work... but if it did, man wouldn't that be sweet =)
