Magnify with a mask?
by Joseph M. Morgan on Apr 14, 2008 at 4:10:29 pm

I want to pass text over existing footage with the text having a magnifying effect of the background image... kind of like the text is glass with a slight magnification.

The text will move across the footage from right to left like a marquee.

I was thinking about using a text mask.. but not smart enough to figure out how to magnify the background.

I was thinking I would do it with 2 comps... ie. Comp the footage with a 5% scale enhancement and then create a text mask and animate its position.. and over lay the "regular" footage... but the edges don't look right... I need a way for the edges to refract the background.

Joseph,

If you have Sapphire Plugins try "S_WarpMagnify" on your background and link the matte to your text outline layer. To get the edges looking better mess with the "blur matte" slider that is in the matte flyout of that effect.
That is just a quick and dirty way.

Also look into these for more in depth ways.

Hope that helps,
