Export Error using MP4 and h264 in AE 6.5

Ok, hopefully some gurus out there can help me out. I am using AE 6.5 on Leopard 10.5.2, Quicktime 7.4.5 . I didn't have any problems exporting until just the other day. My project is 1920x1080, 29.97fps, Full Quality, and I'm trying to export to 640x360, h264, 1500 bit rate, no sound.
This started out as just a test project. I have 6 PNG images positioned in 3D layers to make it look like a 3D "room". I created a camera, and just keyframed a movement with the orbit tool from one side of the "room" to the other.
That last bit of info may not even matter because I suspect this is a Quicktime problem! I just bought a new hard drive. I installed a fresh copy of Leopard to test my theory. I rolled back Quicktime to 7.4.1 using pacifist. I'm going to attempt to rollback to 7.3.1 as well and see if that fixes it.
Am I overlooking something simple and stupid? I have successfully exported projects to the same settings before. After I did an automatic software update is when I started to notice problems. Oh! And exporting to other codecs usually works, it's just mp4 and h264 I have problems with. I've also tried using the render que instead of just exporting.

That's because it takes a God-awful amount of time to encode to mp4 or h264 from a 1920x1080 comp. You might be better off rendering in, say, the Animation codec, and using a different application to get it to your ultimate codecs.

Ok, I solved my problem! It turns out it was something stupid after all. The "no sound" part of the equation seems to be the culprit. Even though I don't have any audio in the project, I decided to leave the sound on and export again. BLAMO! It worked :-)
After all that! Just leaving sound on was the fix. Sigh. I still think I'm going to stick with the 7.3.1 quicktime for now as well. As long as everything is working, I don't want to change a thing!
