Illustrator to After Effects
by Jamil Yamani on Apr 10, 2008 at 12:30:20 am

Hi all

I have some artwork that I am trying to copy and paste into AE CS3 from AI CS3. I am able to copy the paths but not the fills, ie into a Shape layer. Is there something I am doing wrong or is this not possible?

I am trying to animate the stroke and the fill of my logo artwork and of course the colour fill information is very important.

any help would be much appreciated

jamil

You need to look at these:

Hi Dave

Thanks I checked out those tutes but they when you paste paths from AI CS3 to AE CS3 the colour info dose not become pasted to the clipboard.

I played around with it myself and found that I needed to copy and paste the paths to a shape layer.

And also import the layer through the file import dialog...this part gets you the colour info.

I then had to re-align the paths to the original artwork.

It seems a bit silly not to be able to bring over the colour and the path info.

Thanks again

Well, why use a shape layer at all?

Can't you simply break out the components you want to animate in AE into separate layers in Illustrator, import the Illustrator document as a comp, and then get to work?
