error message pop-up in After Effects...
by Augie Ingratta on Mar 23, 2008 at 3:47:08 pm

Hoping that someone can help me with this problem....
When I hit the the "0", (zero), key to do a ram preview in After Effects, I get this error message pop-up........... "After Effects error: RAM preview needs 2 or more frames to playback"
My project is 25 secs. long.

Yeah, this is a goofy error that I've only been able to solve by restarting the app.

The error hasn't occurred with the CS3 version, though.

Anybody else?

make sure your maximum RAM cache size is not set below 60%, in your preferences -> memory & cache

[jonathan shohet] "make sure your maximum RAM cache size is not set below 60%, in your preferences -> memory & cache"

Is this a documented issue? Because I've set mine below 60% to avoid render issues in the past.

O.K.......got the RAM preview to work in After Effects CS3.
"Max Ram Cache size" in the preferences menu was set to 10%.....changed the value to 85% and it does a Ram preview when I hit the "0" key.

Thanks for the help.

[Augie Ingratta] "changed the value to 85% and it does a Ram preview when I hit the "0" key. "

85% is a little high, I would recommend 60% to avoid render errors.

You might also check to make sure your work area selected isn't less than 2 frames. If you accidently hit "b" and 'n' together it will set your in and out points of your work area to the same frame and then you would be asking AE to preview a 1 frame comp.
