Script to add 4 sets of data to markers
by Teo Camporeale on Mar 18, 2008 at 9:27:08 pm

Hello to all, I'm trying to create markers in AfterEffects with 4-point tracking data embedded. I started out using the provided AE script called "Convert Selected Properties to Markers" to place markers on the timeline with the Position (x,y) values from a layer with CornerPin applied. The purpose is to eventually export the position data to a Flash movie with the markers coming up as Flash Cue Points.
When I select the CornerPin effect, and apply that script, however, only 3 sets of data are embedded into the markers. Also, the markers still need to be given a name, since Flash doesn't see them (action script) unless they're named (this is less of a problem, though).
Apparently this supplied script with AE is written only to support 3 sets of data. Does anyone have one written already, or could offer help in providing the java script necessary to make the markers contain 4 sets of data?
Thank you very much for any help!
-Teo

Hi Teo,

Did you manage to find out how to name the markers in after effects so that flash can read the cue points?? I don't fancy naming each one individually... if you help me out you are a legend.

Thanks,
Pablo

Hi Pablo, I may not be a legend, but it was quite by accident and a lot of trial and error to figure out! Hope this helps:

The problem with the AE script "ConvertSelectedPropertiesToMarkers" is that it does indeed put a marker at each keyframe for the property selected (whether transform or FX). However, these markers are not recognized by Flash until they are named. Right?
So, what you do is FIRST create one marker, say at the first keyframe, and manually give that one marker a name. THEN, when you do apply the script, magically the name of just-named marker will be applied into all the markers on that property.

PS: For any that need it: It turns out that although the marker-edit interface only allows for 3 sets of Parameter Name/Values, if you invoke the script using an effect with 4 data-sets, like CornerPin-- it actually gets embedded! You will not be able to see the data correctly in AE, but it does seem to come through in Flash.
