Mac endoded moc not playing on PC
by Graham Quince on Mar 6, 2008 at 9:07:16 am

Hi everyone

Has anyone come across this problem before. I have been given a Mac created .mov file, which I can't import into any PC program I have. AE CS3 and PP CS both reject it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Do you have the latest version of Quicktime installed?

What codec was used to encode the .mov file?

Not all codecs that are available for OSX are available on Windows. Apple's DVCProHD codec for instance isn't available on Windows.

Thanks Barend - I thought it might be a codec issue.

The person sending it to me was using iMovie and tried to set the output compression to 'a sorenson thing' apparently. I thought PCs had all three sorenson codecs but....

Ask him to try the Photo-JPEG codec at 75% quality, that should work on on a pc with QuickTime.
