Which cpu/gpu would you agree with?
by David Fekete on Mar 5, 2008 at 11:17:38 pm

Hi
Im before notebook purchase and need suggestions about the configs.Im aware of the thing that cs3 is not for notebooks, but still...I dont wanna spend too much but want to use cs3 as well(have tried it for 3months on a turion 1.7 x2 go6100(!!)and it was not too bad). What would you suggest to buy?The cheaper the better,if you say,yes rendering not too fast, but ok and works perfect, than itsok.there is a toshiba coreduo 1.8 with nvidia go7300; OR coreduo 1.6 with ATI hd2600 OR coreduo 1.7 with go7400. the cheapest is turion x2 1.8 with ATI hd2400.what do u say?which is the best config out of these?which is more important the type, the freq of CPU or the videocard?do ATI cards work fine?i saw something on the compatibility site...

There is another possiblitiy: 1.6 centrinoduo + ATI hd2600.Is the ATI card supported?if yes,i guess this config is the best! aint it?

I would say you shouldn't worry much about the GPU at all. The CPU is pretty important, but the most important part is probably the RAM. If you can get a laptop that supports 4GB of high speed DDR2 RAM then you should be in great shape.

wow this is another approach to the problem. So far I received 2 suggestions: the higher clock the better since not every programs support 2 cores; and the gpu is the most important since the lower clock is not too neccessary but the lp2 ->the higher the better. Now you say the cpu is more important, not the gpu.So it means core2duo with lower GHz(1.5) with middleclass gpu;coreduo with higher GHz(1.8) with lower-middle class gpu; coreduo with lower GHz(1.6) with lower top class gpu; or just a simple turion x2(1.7)with middle class gpu??

Okay, here's the deal.

AE does support GPU accellerated previewing and to a lesser extent some plugins are GPU accellerated.

But as projects get more complex, the GPU maxes out fast - especially when working at HD resolutions.

My advice would be similar to Darby's. Get a fast Core2Duo CPU, and 4GB RAM.

Ok! SO what would you say for a 1.8 coreduo with go7300 plus 3Gram ?
