creating a windshield and car windows and for bullet hits

hello all,
I am making a feature action film and there are several parts of the movie which require gun shots that hit and break car/truck/bus windows. I was wondering (after i saw an andrew kramer tutorial) how does one create a window and then enable it to collapse when hit by a bullet? how to mask it? and when hit by a bullet (not really hit but for the film's sake) when it gets hit by a bullet how does it collapse/crash?

If you notice in those examples, the glass shatters first, then falls apart. if you maybe had a bullet hole in the glass, and animate some cracks coming out of it, then apply the shatter effect with bigger pieces, it would look more realistic.

Let's see....
You want someone to clobber a whole bunch of people with an oversized truck bumper, and then throw it in the air along with the bad guy, trying to do the lion's share of the effects in AE. It all has to look photorealistic.
You also want to simulate bullet holes in glass -- including single-shot weapons, automatic weapons and shotguns, and plenty of them, no doubt -- and it all has to look photorealistic.
Lord only know what other effects you have up your sleeve that you'll reveal later. PLUS -- you're just getting started in AE.
I certainly hope this project is the ONLY thing you have to do between now and its due date. You're going to need the time, and that's no bull.

Well, if you consider anything other than wholeheartedly and unflinchingly assisting you in your plan for an action movie on a shoestring to be criticism and no help, then I'll have to plead guilty.
But now, let's look at the elements to consider for just one shot: the hero is midst of a chase, running a gauntlet of bad guys. As he nears a particularly nasty-looking one, Nasty pulls out something that looks like a big, black bazooka. He shoulders it and prepares to fire. As we see the hero driving furiously, a tiny rocket blasts through a rear side window, spraying glass all over the place.
So:
• How do you mount the camera on the car hood to get a shot of the hero?
• Do you do this as a practical effect with candy glass, or with software?
• If it's with software, have you run tests to see if it's going to work the way you want?
• If the tests fail, do you have time to re-shoot?
• Can you afford a pane of candy glass?
• What about sound? Do you do it as foley work? Do you rely on sound effects CD's? Have you located the sound effects, so you KNOW you have them?
Those are just a FEW of the considerations that go into what may prove to be 40 frames of film in the final cut.
I'm not saying you shouldn't try and shoot something, I'm that shooting an action movie for a class project is WAY overambitious for a first choice. You might want to consider doing something with a few less "ifs" in it. Don't throw your current script away, but you might want to try doing something that isn't going to eat up all your time, patience, sleep and sanity for the forseeable future.

LaRonde,
dont worry about time, patience and sleep. This isnt a class project. This is a major feature film that will be sent to festivals and competitions nationwide mind you.
Obviously since i am a student i dont have all of the bells and whistles to make a overpriced action flick but mind you with the skills my team possesses we can damn right make one almost as good.
regardless of it, I hear what you are saying but I am just looking for an answer on how to get bullet hits on car windows and possibly glass shatters..

and i didnt come here to hear your sarcasm and bs.
if you have help or advice give it or else just dont post bull and waste my time. Obviously there are better experts on this forum then you that I can ask so its no big deal, since you have not given any ideas or help.
