importing captured quicktime files into AE
by Ryan Fannon (ryanvii) on Feb 20, 2008 at 5:30:47 pm

I captured DV 29.97 4x3 w/ letter box in FCP. When I open the footage in Quicktime the quality isn't set to "high quality". So I set it to high quality and hit save.

When I try to import the captured video into AE it still looks low quality and has jaggy edges.

I've tried playing with the aspect ratio and interpret footage dialog box.

Any ideas?

That's not a whole lot of information to go on.

I presume you mean that it's a standard 720x480, 4x3 DV picture that contains a 16x9 image.

What happens if you DON'T do that?

How are you looking at it? In the AE quicktime viewer? In a comp? What size is the comp? What's the pixel aspect ratio of the comp? Are you trying to scale the footage up? Do you have the Pixel aspect ratio compensation switch toggled on?

"I've tried playing with the aspect ratio and interpret footage dialog box."
Did you accidentally separate the fields on progressive-scan (30p) DV footage? Was this footage shot 24p? Was this footage actually shot in DV widescreen?

i found the answer in another thread. i had to turn off the de-interlace radio button in interpret footage.
