why is my timeline preview so slow for every frame?

hello,
I never used to have issues like this in AE, but since i got CS3 it just seems sooooo much slower than it used to be.. In this project specifically, im using trapcode 3D STROKE... all i have in my composition is two shapes with 3D Stroke on them, and a 35MM camera... without the camera, i can scroll back and forth on the timeline and everything will be updated almost instantly. But when i put the camera on, every time i jump to a new frame it takes nearly 2-3 seconds to load that frame...this shouldnt happen with a 1.8dual core and 2gigs of RAM...
am i just being a newbie and dont understand my hardware? please help...
ps. ive got the option to use both processors. also using 10gig of cache, memory usage is 120%, and ram memory is 60%... what am i doing wrong?

No, the graphics card probably isn't affecting anything. It might speed things up with OpenGL enabled, but ususally that's more trouble than its worth. Most of us don't use it.
Do you have Depth of Field enabled for the camera? That would slow it down.

i didn have depth of field..but even without it its abnormally slow...
im used to working on massive compositions with many layers psd, video, and drawn, and moving a camera about without any problems...the image is normally updated in an instance..but in this composition all ihave is one or two empty adjustment layers with 3d stroke masks in them... why would it take AE so long to update the image for me in comparison to a massive compositions with many layers and effects...

[david lieberman]"is trapcode just that heavy of a plugin? "
It shouldn't be... Try turning Draft 3D on (it's the third switch from the left at the top of the composition just above the layers, it looks like a cube with a light shining on it).
This will disable all lights/shadows and depth of field, see if that speeds things up. If it does then either you have some lights that are slowing the render down, or you have depth of field enabled (which you said you didn't, you should probably keep it that way).
I don't have 3D Stroke on my computer, so I'm not familiar with the ins & outs of the settings, but there could definitely also be something in there that would affect render time.

Would this footage of the camera happen to be a really big still picture? If you have any animated effects on this layer, plus lights, plus shadows, plus motion blur, the render time will certainly lengthen.

theres hardly anything there...its 720x576 comp. it has an adjustment layer with a tiny mask in the shape of a flower. the mask has 3d stroke on it. there are no lights/shadows/depth of field or anythign like that..just the flower shape with 3d stroke applied to it, and a camera. i guess this plugin is just heavy on the software.
