AVI files not showing
by Aaron Ash on Feb 14, 2008 at 3:25:01 am

For some reason when I import AVI files into After Effects CS3 they don't show (just black). I know the files work because they play in both VLC and Windows media player. They even turn out as just black videos when I render them. I'm using windows xp sp2 32 bit, with a core 2 quad q6600 and 4gb of DDR2 800 ram. Other files like wmv show up just fine; but not avi, and thats the file format that almost all of my work is in.

Thanks for replies.
Aaron.

You are probably missing a codec. AVI is just a container and can contain video encoded in any number of different formats.
If you don't know what codec it might be needing, a handy tool for identifying it is GSpot

Yes you were right, gspot shows no avi codec installed. Where do you recommend I download those codecs?

thanks,
