tga sequence - alphachannel
by gunnar Kordestani on Feb 4, 2008 at 1:38:55 am

I try to find a workflow to transfer animated titles made in AE to use in dps Velocity. It seems that a tga sequence is a possible way.

To test it I just rendered one and reimported it in AE (as I dont have any dps here). The problem I have is that I never get any transparency. Always the title I did is rendered on the background color of the composition.

I chose "tga sequence", "RGB + Alpha" and "Premultiplied" as rendersettings.

whats the point in getting the result I want?

thanks ...Gunnar

It sounds more like the program you are bringing it into (DPS Velocity) has the problem. Not AE. It should work exactly as you described.

Do the following to check:

Import your TGA sequence back into AE, and see if it has an al[ha channel.

If it does, the problem is with your DPS velocity. If not, you are doing something wrong in AE.

FYI - you are best to export with a Straight RGB, Not Premultiplied. Watch this video:

In the Output Module, look for the "options" button when you choose TGA sequence. Then choose 32 bits, not 24.

"32 bit" did what was missing. "premultiplied vs straight" is also good to know. thx both of you.... and see you next time.
