CS3 applications don't use Quad core

Hi,
I've installed some days ago, all the new production premium suite CS3 on my new pc. My configuration is
Q6600 2.4@3.3ghz
2GB ddr2 800 geil 4-4-4-12
segate barracuda sata2 320 for OS
2*200gb RAID0 sata2 for edit and composit
XFX 8800 gts 320mb
Both, AE and premiere don't use more than 25-28 % of CPU (by task manager) in rendering work
Only if I use adobe media encoder it works at 80-85%
That is normal? anyone have tried to work with a quad core expecially with AE composition rendering?

for after effects, you will need to enable multiprocessing in the multiprocessing preference to get more cores to render. you will probably need to adjust the max ram cache in the memory & cache preference.
try dropping it down to around 25%-35% to get 2-3 more cores to render essentially, with 2gb of ram you are trying to split that equally for the 4 cores. you may find that restricting that much ram (about 512mb to get all 4 cores) for rendering may cause other problems. enabling disk caching may help, but you may find that you as good of performance using 2-3 cores since each core will have more ram to work with.
as you make adjustments to the max ram cache, you can go back to the multiprocessing pref window and ae will say how many 'additional cores' will be used with that ram cache setting, so you can see how your changes are effecting processing power. you can then compare how the extra processing power actually contributes to render speed...
remember, processors need to be fed data to process from the ram, if the ram can't provide enough data to keep up with the processor's demand for data, the extra processing power doesn't mean too much...

Thankyou to all of you.
I've made some test and now I can use 3 core at max with memomory cache at 10% (the minimum).
But I found a problem with this memory cache configuration, I cannot make a RAM preview (with 0 tab on the keypad) but only ram renderign with the spacebar, but it doesn't become green but it is blue color permanently. If I try to have a RAM preview en error message that says tha I need 2 ore more frames to have a preview..what it means??
NOW I'm satisfied but I think tah I will buy other 2gb in few days.
The only problem is the RAM limit of 3GB on XP 32bit, How can i solve this? With 4 GB Can I use 4 cores at the same time?
Thankyou very much

[matero]"If I try to have a RAM preview en error message that says tha I need 2 ore more frames to have a preview"
there may be other causes for this, but if you have the time controls set to render from current position, and the time line cursor is on the last frame of the comp, you will always get that error message. just uncheck that option or go to an earlier frame in the comp.
[matero]"e only problem is the RAM limit of 3GB on XP 32bit, How can i solve this?"
there is a file that can be changed to allow xp32 to see 4gb, i believe 1gb will be reserved for xp. if you search the ae forum, you should find more information on this.
adding more ram should allow you to better use the 4-cores in ae. also note, when the multiprocessing window says '3 additional cores will be used' that means all 4 cores will be used (1 + 3 more).

Does anyone have this trouble with a Quad Mac post Leopard? We've been fiddlign with the multithread settings and can't quite get more than one Core to render.
We did some tests. The clone function on AE using Leopard is targeting a single core on my machine. One processor is at 100% while the others languish at 2%, and thus the arrow takes a very long time to render. The setting within AE "multithread" does nothing on or off.
Moreover, we can use the exact same feature set without difficulty on her G4 running Tiger, and to our chagrin we've got our G4 running in my office until we finish up our work.
We installed a storebought CS3 Master Edition and downloaded the latest AE updates.
Help!
And if I never find my Juliet,
I'll fall into an oubliette...
