Why can't I paste from Premiere?
by Naveen Mallikarjuna on Jan 16, 2008 at 9:33:23 pm

I think I'm following the Adobe livedocs as closely as possible.

I'm trying to copy a clip from Premiere Pro CS3 into After Effects CS3.

I select the clip on the Premiere Pro timeline, then go to Edit>Copy.

I switch over to After Effects, and make sure the timeline of an open composition is selected. I then attempt to Edit>Paste...but wait, Edit>Paste is greyed out. I can't select it.

What am I doing wrong?

The main issue here (beyond the Paste feature not working) is timecode.

I have a trimmed clip on the timeline in Premiere that I want to bring into AE. Since After Effects can't read the timecode, I need to copy and paste, or find some way to get AE to read the timecode of the clip. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Naveen

You can't cut & paste like that.

Before AE can use footage, you have to import it so it shows up in AE's project window. That's where every thing starts in AE.

How about trying to import the entire Premiere project into AE? Poof! There's your clip, nice & trimmed-up and everything.
