Video card for AE CS3 and Lightwave

I am running CS3 and Lightwave 9 and I am planning on building a new machine (which I have never done before). So I was wondering what the best option for a graphics card that will work with my software (around the $200-$300ish range). Is there a difference between the DirectX cards and the FireGL cards as far as compatibility?

As long as it's supported, it's good for CS3.

You should now look on a Lightwave forum to narrow down the list to find something that cooks with LW.
