The creative cow forums and magazine have been a tremendous resource for me. You guys have cured a few of my headaches in the past. With that being said I hope you read the next paragraph.
I recently shot some 16:9(1.78) DVCPRO 50 footage on the SDX 900. The footage is going to be used in a 4:3 DV project that is 720x480. The DVCPR0 50 tape was cross converted to mini DV and is squeezed on the tape. So here's my big question, can After Effects convert the 16:9 squeezed footage into 4:3 letter boxed footage? Unfortunately I can't transfer the footage again and convert it out of the deck. Thank you for taking the time out to read this post.

Yes, of course. Import the footage, then drop it into a DV (*not* widescreen) preset comp, with pixel aspect ratio 0.9. Scale to width (cmd-opt-shift-H).
If you have trouble, make sure the footage is interpreted with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.2 (file>interpret footage>main) to make it widescreen.
