Strange Motion Blur problem....
by jimmy bee on Dec 18, 2007 at 2:23:28 pm

I'm hoping someone can help...

I'm doing a camera move on a simple 3000x3000 solid with an add+subtract mask (it's an outline triangle) but at certain point of the camera move the layer disappears - almost like opacity has been switched, but hasn't!? If I switch off motion blur for the comp, or just that layer it reappears.

Any ideas?

Double check your camera move. Perhaps your big solid is obscuring those mask layers momentarily.

Nah, the masks were on the big solid itself..

I sorted it by restarting AE and then hitting preview again - worked this time..Odd!?!

Whenever a restart fixes the problem I think it's probably some sort of weird ram issue. You can always try Edit > Purge > Image cache (or All) to empty out the ram that AE is using. This may help you avoid a restart.

And for renders, go into the preferences and into the secret menu and set it to dump the ram cache every 15 or 30 frames.

Thanks Aharon, I did try the purge and dump first but no joy. It must have been some bizarre quirk exclusive to that project. All done and dusted now though...so to the depths of an archived DVD-R you go!...
