I have just upgraded to CS3 and have realised that none of my plug-ins are showing up. Obviously they are still AE7's folder.
Is it easiest just to drag the plug-ins to the cs3 folder, or do i have to do a complete re-install? Can i copy the plug-ins so as to leave a copy available for AE7 (just in case i have teething troubles with cs3)?
The plug-ins i have are all licenced versions (Sapphire, trapcode, Magic Bullet, Knoll ) so i'm not sure if the plug in looks for the licence in a specific place and whether this will be affected by moving them?

Usually you can copy all of the contents in your AE7 plugin folder and past it directly into the AECS3 Plugin Folder. It should be ok because all of your reg files go to your system32 folder no matter what. So CS3 should be able to find the needed registry files with no problem.
If your concerned cut and paste 1 plugin first to test it out

If you are on the Mac remember AE went to Universal Binary (to work on macintel). Because of that you need to redownload plugins from your vendors OR run in rosetta I guess.

if you have system compatible plug-ins then you don't need to copy and paste them into CS3 all you need is a shortcut on a PC or an alias for a mac. I install all my 3rd party stuff that normally goes in the Plug-ins folder in a folder I created in the Plug-ins directory or folder called 3rd party. Then I created an Alias on the Mac or a Shortcut on a PC and moved that to the plug-ins folder of the other version. I actually try and keep the latest versions in the newest app so the alias lives in AE7's folder.
Some plug-ins are now installing in a common folder in the library so you'll have to run the installer again.
Again, this works with most. Some do have to be installed in each app and all need to be compatible.
