3D projection and volumetric light through layers

i want to know how to create a good looking 3d projection onto a wall. used a spotlight and shadowcasting videolayer in front of this but the projection on the wall was barely visible.
i tried http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/2/891127? but i couldnt recreate it and/or open the projectfile.
(got lux but i want this projector look, not just a volumetric spotlight)
another thing is light passing through layers with transparent spots, like when light is passing through a wooden wall.
i kind of want to recreate these saw4 trailer scenes
