No no no! Don't waste your money on an expensive graphics card for AE! It won't help at all, and you'll be spending money that should be spent elsewhere!
Now then.
Apple's Color and Motion are pretty dependent on graphics cards, so get the recommended card for those apps. Pay no attention to AE. Get 8 GB of RAM and Nucleo Pro for AE.

Quadro hands down! Yes, your graphics card does matter. As I have come to understand it, CS3 is the first AE to take advantage of GPU. If you really want AE to fly, get plenty of RAM (4 gigs). It doesnt require that much but the combo of 4 gigs plus the 4500fx. You would be sitting pretty good :-)

[omnidecay]"Quadro hands down!"
If you want to use your computer for games, too, I suppose that's true. But Open GL implementation has NEVER been of AE's strong suits, and it still isn't.
I concur with Steve's assessment. Hot graphics cards: great for gamers, ho-hum for AE. For AE, RAM's more valuable than a hot card. How about other applications? Well, that's a different story.

He asked what is the best card (out of a list) for AE use. Not "what are the best applications" for AE preview and render. Maybe you miss read, he gave a list of cards and out of them. Which would most increase render time? In this case, the quadro would be the best choice. I never said it was the best thing to do for AE and I'm not quite sure where the game comment came in. Since you are upgrading to a MAC pro and you HAVE to choose a graphics card. Why not go for the one that has computer animation and graphics in mind? Not games.....
